Now that a deal has been worked out by the New York State Senate and the Assembly there are a lot of people excited and for many different reasons. Everyone that is in favor of making recreational marijuana legal for adult use, had great arguments for why this is a great thing for the Western New York community.

Zephyr has been trying to bring a massive high-tech cannabis production and distribution campus to South Buffalo. The proposed law would create an Office of Cannabis Management, which is in charge of the licensing. If anyone is looking to grow from home, you would need a license and you will have to wait 18 months after the first dispensary opens. Adults 21 years or older will be able to grow their own medical marijuana, any younger users would have to have a designated caregiver of age to grow their medical marijuana.

The state projects millions in revenue, with a local tax shared by counties, there are plenty of ideas already going around about how the money is going to help and how it can be used. There are still some questions about licensing and how to distribute a license. I'm pretty interested to see how this will play out as well.

The U.S. Census 2019 American Community Survey and America's Health Rankings Senior Report 2019 data were also used to provide demographics on the senior population of each state and the state's rank on senior health care, respectively.
