So much for the Buffalo Sabres two-game winning streak.  It came to an end with a huge thud with a 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday night.  Columbus took control of the game with three goals in less than three minutes late in the second period.

The offensive players the Sabres depend on are nowhere to be found in the last two games.  Even though they won Tuesday night only Benoit Pouliot was able to find the net.  Wednesday night Seth Griffith was the only one to solve Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky with a meaningless goal late in the game.

Jack Eichel, Evander Kane, Jason Pominville, Ryan O'Reilly; where have they been?  O'Reilly had a clear cut breakaway when the score was 1-0 and he came up empty.  If he'd been able to score there, it's a completely different game.

Give Bobrovsky credit.  He was solid, especially when the game was in doubt and ended up stopping 30 Buffalo shots.

When Columbus scored its second goal, the Sabres just fell apart.  Columbus' fourth goal was just a tap in after Chad Johnson thought he had a shot stopped but it was right in the goal crease behind him and it was the easiest goal of the night.

Having played the night before while Columbus was resting at home could have been a factor, but the Sabres poor passing is killing them and has most of the season.

The Sabres are off until Saturday afternoon when they host San Jose.
