Many businesses have closed due to the far-reaching economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic, and one East Aurora business is calling an "intermission" for an undetermined amount of time.

The Aurora Theatre and Popcorn Shop will be taking an extended "intermission" according to an announcement on their Facebook page.

To our fantastic customers and supporters...as we start the new year, the situation within New York State and the movie exhibition industry unfortunately has not improved. We are faced with attendance restrictions, events are not permitted and, based on no indoor dining, we cannot sell concessions. Add to that a lack of new movies being released and most pushing back their release dates until at least Spring. It is unfortunate but it is what we must deal with. Based on these factors, The Aurora Theatre will "taking an intermission" at the close of business Thursday January 7th.

The theatre stressed in the announcement they are not closing.

Calling the situation "temporary," the theatre plans to show films again in April, or sooner -- dependent on if New York State COVID-19 restrictions allow for theatres to reopen, and at what capacity.

The Aurora Popcorn Shop will continue to offer popcorn to go and on-line.
