The COVID-19 pandemic started in Western New York back in March and while we're not dealing with the virus as a whole statewide like we did back in March and April, the numbers lately haven't been promising.

According to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, the region's positivity rate was 5 percent on November 3rd, which isn't good.

According to WGRZ, the zip code with the highest positivity rate in Western New York is 14212 at 6.3 percent. The zip code covers the lower east side to Sloan.

"Investigating these zip codes many times they are family clusters where several people multiple people living in their house are positive a lot of these are related to schools and higher education colleges and universities," said Dr. Gale Burstein, the Erie County health commissioner.

The five zip codes with the highest positivity rate right now in Western New York, according to WGRZ are:

  1. 14218 (6.3%), lower east side to Sloan
  2. 14032 (4.8%), Clarence Center
  3. 14223 (3.7%), North Tonawanda
  4. 14222 (3.6%), the Elmwood Village
  5. 14218 (3.5%), Lackawanna

One local doctor says some pandemic restrictions we saw earlier need to be restored.

"While we want to open these things, trust me, the economy needs it it's not the right time until we have a vaccine," said Dr. Raul Vazquez of Urban Family Medicine on Buffalo's West Side.

There are currently no plans to put back in restrictions.
