It Looks Like the Majority of the Country is Rooting for the Bills

The AFC and NFC Championship games are coming up this weekend.  So which of the 4 teams are people rooting for here in the United States?

It's the new way of doing polls. They look at what they call "Geotagged Twitter data" and fan hashtags.  In other words, they look at the number of times people use specific words on social media and then clump them into an area of a map to show who people are talking about the most. They do it all the time for things like each state's favorite Halloween candy or Thanksgiving side dish.

This time, it's about football.

We are down to 4 teams left leading up to the Superbowl.  In the NFC, it's the Tom Brady led Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Aaron Rogers led Green Bay Packers. Of course, you know in the AFC, it's our Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs.  So who does it look like most people are talking about according to this data?

It looks to me like the Bills are the talk of the town (or the country in this case).

When you count them all up, the Bills take 22 of the 50 states. Kansas City has a bit of a strip right up the middle of the country with 10 states. Tampa Bay is pretty much a couple of states in the southeast, and then a couple of states in New England that are still rooting for Brady and Gronk. They had 10 states too. Then there's Green Bay who many people are predicting to not only win the whole thing but also might have the NFL MVP with Aaron Rogers. They have the fewest states at 8.

I would make an argument that Wyoming shouldn't be listed as a Kansas City state too.  That's where Josh Allen played in college and they're rooting for the Bills too.

But we all know that it doesn't matter how many fans you have.  It's whether or not you win.  We will see if the extra love makes a difference this Sunday as the Bills take on the Chiefs at 6:40 pm.
