The spring is here but you would not know that if you were in a few locations in New York State this week.

The Great Lakes are amazing. They provide fresh water and some great fishing. However, they also can drop significant snow in April when the winds are right.

For some residents in New York State, there has been an incredible amount of snow this season.

As we get closer to mid-April, the snow totals are still piling up!

Lake Effect Knows No Season

In portions of New York State, the cold air has passed over the warmer waters of Lake Ontario and have formed those famous lake effect snow bands that we all tall about. Typically, we see a lot of the snow fall in the winter months. However, even in the spring, if conditions are right, the lake effect machine can fire up!

This past week, it was noted that areas in the Tug Hill region got even more snow bringing the total for the season to over 28 feet of snow!

According to a post on the Northern Chateau Facebook page, "We have not seen measurable snow in weeks but Mother Nature sent some our way yesterday. According to the White Board here at the Worth location of northernchateau.com, we picked up 14" of snow bringing our season total to 338"! yup 28 feet 2 inches".
