The Buffalo Bills are already diving head first into preparations for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Staff is down at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, which features some of the best college prospects who are eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft. After that, the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in late February, before Pro Days at colleges in March and April, leading up to the draft at the end of April.

The Bills are dealing with some pretty urgent needs, if they want to improve upon their AFC Divisional round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

They will lose Jordan Poyer, Tremaine Edmunds, Devin Singletary, along others if they do not re-sign them to new contracts before the start of free agency in March, but they will be tight with the salary cap and have other positions they need to address.

Many fans agree that wide receiver and offensive line are two dire needs for this team. I would be one of those who agree with that notion. Improving the interior of the defensive line and safety are other needs that are likely to be addressed in the draft or free agency.

However, quite a few mock drafts lately have pegged running back to the Bills with the 27th overall pick in April: which would be Texas standout, Bijan Robinson going to Buffalo.

Robinson would likely be a top 10 pick if this was 20 years ago but with running backs being devalued early in drafts, he is being mocked to fall towards the end of round one.

Daniel Jeremiah of The NFL Network, Maddy Glab of the Bills website and Eric Edholm of Around the NFL all have Robinson going to the Bills in round one.

On the surface, it makes sense. The Bills have not had a difference maker in the backfield and Robinson would be that.

However, the Bills cannot afford to draft running back in the first round and I would argue second round as well.

They are not a run-heavy team. They rely on Josh Allen's arm and occasionally his legs to win games. Improve the offensive line and weapons at wide receiver. That should be the focus for day one and two of the draft (rounds 1-3).

I think it's highly unlikely general manager Brandon Beane used pick 27 on running back and they frankly cannot use that pick on a position that undervalued, especially in this offense with Josh Allen.
