Will Byron Brown Be Stepping Down As Mayor Of Buffalo?

There is an important conversation going on today that will affect the city of Buffalo, and it's not even happening here.

The city of Buffalo could be getting a new mayor before the end of the year.

Who is the current mayor of Buffalo?

As it stands, Byron Brown is the mayor of Buffalo, New York.  He has held that position since January of 2006.  It's an office that has a 4 year term that can then be renewed following an election.

India Walton almost replaced Brown after he lost to her in the Democratic Primary in 2021.  He ran as a write-in candidate that year and was able to win during the general election.

A meeting today could change leadership in Buffalo

There is an important meeting going on today between the board of directors at the Western Regional Off-Track Betting.  They're discussing candidates that they might choose to be the next president and CEO of their organization.  Their current president and CEO was bought out of his contract in June, so they are looking for someone to replace him by the end of the year.

Byron Brown is a leading candidate in OTB's conversations

Many are assuming that if Byron Brown is chosen by the board, that he will take that job and step down as mayor of Buffalo.

However, as of right now, it is a waiting game.  We will wait to hear who OTB will choose as their next president and CEO.  If Byron Brown is chosen to fill that position, we will have to wait to see if he accepts.

Then the talks will start as to who will be the next to move into the mayor's office.
