A scary situation happened this year at the New York State Fair, and a lot of people are still unsure about what happened.

It’s one of the most popular fairs in the country: The Great New York State Fair. There are people who attend the fair every year from neighboring states because the appeal is so high. However, this year there was a major scare that happened in Syracuse, NY.

The New York State Police responded to reports of possible gunshots at the state fair on Sunday, Sept. 1.

They released a report via Facebook to keep everyone informed.

“On September 1, 2024, at 8:38 p.m., State Police assigned to the New York State Fair received a call of possible shots fired between the midway and concert at Suburban Park.

At 8:41 p.m., State Police received a secondary call of possible shots fired at the eatery building.

Troopers responded to both reports and determined that there was no evidence of shots fired or anyone being injured.

After consulting with Fair officials, the decision was made to close the Fair early on Sunday night.

State Police continue to investigate the false reports.”

While the state police have determined that these reports are false, fairgoers are not totally convinced. One fairgoer was near the Expo Center on Sunday evening when they became spooked by the sudden noise.

Here’s a tweet about the encounter:

“I was by the expo center when this happened. If it wasn’t gunshots then it was something similar that made the entire crowd run and hide for cover.”

Another fairgoer believed that it may have been a firecracker, but the police have yet to confirm the specific findings. However, they do believe the reports of gunshots were falsified.

The investigation is ongoing, and we will update you as soon as possible.

The New York State Fair will return again next year, with dates to be announced.
