[WATCH] A Dream Come True In Buffalo, New York
Spring is here in Western New York and the baseball fields are filling with players, coaches and parents! It is the moment that many have been waiting for since they signed their kids up for youth baseball this past winter.
Remember when you were a kid playing baseball in the summer. Perhaps you loved it and dreamed of being in the big leagues someday. Or, perhaps you hated the game and just loved being with friends and getting an ice cream after the game? Either way, many childhood memories revolve around a baseball diamond.
This past weekend, I was taken back to my childhood, even if for a few seconds.
The Old Sandlot
I grew up in East Aurora, New York, and can easily recall playing ball with my friends just about every day. We lived and breathed it! So much in fact that we not only traded and collected baseball cards of our favorite players, we would wait outside of Sahlemn Field (it was Pilot Field at the time) for players to leave the stadium well after a game to try to get autographs! One night I even got a broken bat and had it autographed by Bison catcher, Tom Prince!

Tom Prince is well known for being the player who hit he first home run at Pilot Field on April 14, 1988.
FAST FORWARD TO A DREAM
I am now 47 years old, have four kids, and still love baseball. This summer, I am the head coach of one team and the assistant coach of another. We are on the go at some sort of field just about every other day. It is great to share what little knowledge I have with them, but even more exciting to see them fall in love with the game the way I did.
But for a few seconds this past weekend, MY dream of being on the field at Sahlen Field came true when I was given the chance to throw out a first pitch before a Buffalo Bison game.
The weather is getting better, and the baseball and softball fields are starting to dry out! Soon they will be filled with kids who are dreaming of becoming a superstar and others who just want to get an ice cream cone!
