4 Days off in November for Public New York State Schools
Parents are mad and sounding off on social media because they say that New York State public schools are giving kids off too many days.
It seems pretty standard that they have these days off in November every single year, but parents still have an opinion, especially here in New York State.
Kids are going to have off four different days during the weeks in November this year.
November 4 - Election day
November 11 - Veterans' Day
November 27 and 28 - Thanksgiving break
In November, a lot of school districts across the state are also doing parent-teacher conferences, which usually have schools either have off or half days for the students.
NEXT: There's a new program that's getting a lot of attention lately across the school districts in New York. It is a pilot program that's going to start in New York City and see how it goes. The idea is that New York City schools, some of them, will be connected directly to 911 dispatchers in case of an emergency. What does this mean? It is a pilot program directly related to active shooter situations and is aimed at speeding up emergency responses if such a situation were to occur.
What it is is a new system, and there's a panic button for schools, and when someone hits the panic button, it will initiate a police call right away to 911. It is said that when someone hits the panic button, it will call the police in 10 seconds or under by overriding the 911 call flow. In New York City, they are not launching it until they properly notify all parents who are going to be involved, and then see how it goes.
