The Most Popular First Jobs In New York
A lot of teens will tell you that they would love to be a YouTube star for their first job. But what do most people start out doing for their first job?
Do you remember what your first job was? It's kind of hard to remember. Not because it was that long ago (although it really was) but how do you define a first job? Many of us made a little extra money helping an old lady down the street with a chore. You might have helped her rake her leaves or shovel her driveway. If you were lucky enough, your parents might have paid you a little to do some work. But is that what most people would call their first job?
In our neighborhood we would help a farmer doing hay for the summer. Does that count?
A recent survey by answering service experts at Voicenation.com looked at some of the first jobs that young people were taking on these days. Why did they decide to finally enter the workforce? Did they have bills they needed to pay? Were they saving up for a car or for college?
Most of them said they were just looking for financial independence. There's something to be said for having money to spend when you want it. Here's how the survey broke it down:
- Financial independence 32%
- Responsibility 32%
- Work experience 27%
- Personal growth 17%
- A sense of independence 17%
