Restaurants should really put every item on the receipt. Have you ever been somewhere to eat and then all of the sudden you get the bill and it just tells you the total and nothing else. How do you know everything is accurate? How do you know that you weren't charged for anything extra. You shouldn't have to ask for things to be itemized; isn't that basically the point of the receipt? To have a record of what you paid for?

There are no laws regarding itemized receipts in New York State for restaurants or other businesses. But there should be. (If you work in sales and do a lot of work lunches or dinners you might actually like that there are not itemized receipts sometimes IFYKYK).

It can be annoying sometimes. But, there are laws and regulations that some restaurants and bars have gotten violations for because it may be something that you (or them) do not even know that is illegal.

What you CANNOT DO is something like this The price tag of an item shows “$10.00, + 4 percent if paying with a credit card.”

DO:

-The business lists the higher credit card price next to a lower cash price.
-The business lists the credit card price for items and services, then lets customers know they will receive a discount for using cash.
-The business changes all prices to the credit card price.
