As Buffalo's downtown ballpark approaches its 40th anniversary in Western New York, all of Baseball should be proud of what New York State's second-largest city has been able to build right in the middle of its central business district.

Of course, Buffalo had high hopes for what was originally known as Pilot Field back in 1988 when the park opened. Those hopes have been well fulfilled over the last 37 years as the current Sahlen Field has hosted millions of people for baseball, both minor league and major league, concerts, football, wrestling, food festivals, and more.

After breaking several attendance records of the last 3 plus decades, the stadium is starting to show its age. As most of us who are approaching our 40s are thinking, it may be time for the park to get a few upgrades, and it seems that the City of Buffalo and the Bisons organization agree.

Downtown Buffalo's Sahlen Field Will Soon Get Millions In Updates

According to a report from Buffalo Business First, a plan is in place to invest millions of dollars in the ballpark over the next few years.

Those upgrades will include some basic infrastructure improvements along with other amenities that will go a long way to help improve the fan experience.

While talking to Buffalo Business First, President of Rich Baseball Operations Mike Buczkowski notes that baseball has evolved over the years, along with how people use ballparks, so Sahlen is looking to evolve with the times.

On the way is a new fan gathering space that will provide access to additional food and beverages, as well as space for pre-game activities before the first pitch. This project also includes some necessary electrical and HVAC work for the park. The park has received nearly $40 million in investment since the park opened in 1988, and these new upgrades will make sure that the house that Jimmy built will be a great place to be for the foreseeable future.
