Major Weather Record Could Be Broken In Buffalo, New York

The next few days in Western New York are sure to be hot. Meteorologists from Buffalo's local news stations and the National Weather Service warn that temperatures will be quite high this week as Buffalo sits directly under a heat dome.

Temperatures are expected to be quite dangerous, so much so that government leaders are ringing the alarm about taking appropriate precautions to ensure safety during these hot days. From letting students go home early from school to opening cooling sheds, planning is underway to give people options to stay cool.

While this heat will surely be uncomfortable, one potential benefit may come from it. Buffalo may break one temperature record that has stood the test of time.

Believe it or not, Buffalo has never recorded a temperature of 100º or higher in its more than 200-year history. According to data from the National Weather Service, the hottest it has ever been in Buffalo was 99º, which occurred on August 27, 1948. Buffalo has also recorded a couple of 98º days, on July 9, 2020, and September 3, 1953, but it has never hit 100º.

However, if the current weather trends continue, that may all change this week as we're in for several hot days.
