There are a lot of great reasons why we all love to live in New York State. Whether its the awesome food, amazing places to see, and great things to do to keep yourself occupied, the Empire State is a nice place to call home as long as you can ignore all of the bureaucracy and sky high taxes and fees we pay.

New York state officials have announced a new set of fees that are going to make it cost a lot more money to drive your car around New York.

New York Is Introducing Congestion Pricing For Vehicle Traffic

Thanks to a change in Federal rules that was made by the Biden Administration, New York State officials have been given the green light by the Federal Highway Administration to implement a new congestions pricing plan for people who drive their car in certain areas of New York.

According to WABC-TV in New York City, this new commuter tax has the goal to try and reduce traffic in the busiest parts of New York.

New tolls that are being planned could increase the cost of traveling in New York City, south of 96th street in Manhattan can cost an individual up to $96 in additional fees to drive into Manhattan.

These new charges, which are expected to take effect in the Spring of 2024, is expected to raise billions of dollars in fees for the city and state.

Will These Taxes Apply To The Whole State of New York Or Just New York City?

As it stands now, these congestion taxes and fees will only apply to those people trying to drive into Manhattan.

However, if there is one thing we know about the Empire State, we know that New York love charging its residents exorbitant taxes and fees.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see these fees popping up in other places like Buffalo or the NYC Boroughs.
