Eliminated: Buffalo Sabres Officially Out Of NHL Playoffs
It is now official: the Buffalo Sabres will miss the NHL playoffs for the 14th straight season.
The Buffalo Sabres were in "Must Win" mode heading into the final 6 games of the NHL season. The Sabres won last night at KeyBank Center 3-0 over Carolina but needed Montreal to lose for a chance to make the playoffs this season. Montreal beat Detroit 4-1 last night, earning enough points on the season to officially knock out Buffalo from the playoff chase.
The Buffalo Sabres have been playing very well over the past several weeks. The Sabres have won 8 of their last 9 games to give fans some hope of making the playoffs at the end of the season. That hope is now gone.
The Sabres have five regular-season games left in the season before the team's front office and coaches will spend the offseason trying to figure out how to get this team back into the playoffs.
The Sabres' 14-year playoff drought is an NHL record and currently tied with the New York Jets for the longest streak for missing the playoffs in North American pro sports.
