The next time you go to fill up your tank it could cost you a lot more.

Proposed new tariffs on Canada and Mexico by President Trump could end up pushing the price of a gallon of gas to over $3.50 per gallon.

According to AAA, the current cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in New York State is around $3.16 cents. With the new tariffs in place as of today we could see an increase in a gallon of gas by .30 to .70 cents.

That means over the next several weeks we could end up paying nearly $3.50 or more per gallon.

Gas prices have been slowly declining over the past 12 months. The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in February 2023 was around $3.27. We were almost down .10 this morning but that might not last with the new tariffs going into effect this morning.

We could also see those gas prices jump as we head into summer. Gas Suppliers need to switch over to the Summer blend of gas by May 1st. Because it costs more to produce the Summer blend of gas, consumers usually pay more for it at the pump. all gas stations in New York must be completely switched over to the Summer blend of gas by June 1st, so we could see another major jump in gas prices in May and June.

Gas is not the only automotive item that will see an increase in price. The next time you go get your oil changed you could be in for a sticker shock. The cost of materials like oil and filters is set to increase due to the tariffs.

Other items affected by the new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China include grocery items like fruits, vegetables, and meat.
