Who would be the "Big 4" bands of Boomer Dad Rock?

It's actually quite rare that a band can continue to have an impact on you from the moment you hit your teens all the way through the period of adulthood. Many acts simply don't last that long or their music tales off in such a manner that your tastes shift and you move on to something else. But there are those rare rock bands that managed to defy the stylistic shifts and become those generational acts that are universally loved by most for their entirety.

In this case, we're looking at the bands that the Baby Boomer generation would have embraced in such a manner.

Boomers are classified as being born between 1946-1964, which is one of the broadest generational ranges. That would have made their first year as a teenager between 1959-1977. That's nearly two decades, which missed the technical start of the rock era by about four years.

But by the '60s, rock was starting to evolve into something heavier, darker, more dangerous and well beyond the sugary bubble gum doo-wop of the '50s. And while the '60s saw great twists and turns musically, the '70s saw rock going two directions, with a more folk and melodic side and a blues-influenced side that turned heavier in direction.
