There is a challenge that is ongoing to fill a vital void in Buffalo and Western New York.

The Southtowns Walleye Association of WNY has partnered with the Buffalo Porferssional Firefighters Local 282, The Buffalo Police Benevolent Association for a life saving initaiative.

There are currently NO LIFE SAVING items along the Niagara River. As many of us who live here in Western New York know, the Niagara River can be a dangerous and, sometimes, deadly body of water for those who get caught in the river's powerful current. But your donation can help in the push to get at least 50 life saving rings that will be placed along the shore.

If you are interested, you are asked to donate a nominal fee of $500. This could be an individual or group donation. Perhaps you own a small business or lead a corporate team? This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and perhaps save a life!

Contact the Southtowns Walleye Association of WNY for more information. A great organization that is focused on community, education and conservation of the great resources we are lucky to have in the Buffalo area.

If you love to fish, there are some new regulations that will be put in place as of April 1, 2022. Some of them will pertain to walleye fishing specifically.

New specific dates replaced floating dates for statewide season openers to include:
- May 1 - Walleye, Northern Pike, Pickerel and Tiger Muskellunge
- June 1 – Muskellunge. Note that in 2022, DEC will allow for the fishing of muskellunge beginning the last Saturday in May to accommodate previously planned fishing trips.
- June 15 - Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass
