The NHL Trading Deadline is at 3 p.m. EST on Monday, April 12th (today)...but the Sabres didn't wait until then to pull off a major trade that was broken as news just before midnight here in Buffalo.

According to Darren Dreger of TSN in Canada, the Buffalo Sabres have traded star forward Taylor Hall and bottom-line forward Curtis Lazar to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a second-round draft pick and forward Anders Bjork.

Hall is a former first-overall draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2010 and was signed by the Sabres as an unrestricted free agent this past summer. He signed a one-year contract.

Hall was expected to be traded at the deadline since the Sabres are well out of the playoff hunt and Hall was playing on a one-year contract. He said he would welcome a trade out of Buffalo a few weeks ago when asked about discussions with Sabres GM Kevyn Adams in regards to a potential trade.

Bjorke is a 24-year-old forward who has played in the NHL since 2017. His highest-career goal total is 9, which was during the shortened 2019-2020 season.

I'm not surprised Hall was traded but perhaps I was under the impression he would get more than the return they got late Sunday night. Buffalo-native Nick Foligno was traded earlier on Sunday from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a first-round pick, which led some Sabres fans to speculate Hall would get the same, even on a one-year deal.

We'll see if the Sabres make more traded by this afternoon.
