In 1994, Gretzky scored his 802nd career goal in the NHL. It broke Gordie Howe's record and became the new record for goals scored by one player in their career. He wasn't done there either. Before retiring, he was able to net 92 more to bring the total to 894 career goals. It took him 1,487 games in 20 seasons to do it. It's a record that has lasted since 1999. It's just one of the reasons why he's known as "The Great One" in the hockey world.
Alex Ovechkin is in his 20th season this year. Over the weekend, he played in his 1,487th game in the NHL. In that game, he scored his 895th goal to take the record from Gretzky. Huge congratulations to him on that incredible feat.
