Andrew Cuomo Leaves New York Capital With an Incredible Amount of Money

Andrew Cuomo officially stepped down as the Governor of New York on Tuesday at 12 am. Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul was immediately sworn in as the new Governor of New York State. She is the first female Governor of New York and a Buffalo native.

Cuomo stepped down after a four-month long investigation into numerous allegations from former female staffers and one current female staffer who accused him of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct.

While Cuomo is out as Governor, he still reportedly has a massive amount of money for his campaign.

WGRZ reports that according to the July filing with the New York State Board of Elections, Cuomo had accumulated more than $18 million, which was being collected for a future campaign run and an attempt to continue to hold the seat of Governor.

What will Cuomo use his money on, however?

Legal defense is a likely option, but if the former Governor is penalized by the New York Board of Elections or the Joint Commission on Public Affairs, then that penalty money must come from him directly, says Tom Speaker of Reinvent Albany.

While Cuomo continues to be investigated for the groping and sexual harassment allegations, there is still an ongoing probe into nursing home deaths in New York State during the pandemic and how those death numbers were reported.

Using the money for a future run at office is another option, but the legal worries is still at the top of people's minds when it comes to the immediate future.
