Raccoon Rescued In Amherst After Doing This Silly Thing
A female raccoon that was 'jailed' so to speak, in an Amherst storm drain is happy to be FREE once again.
Amherst Animal Control was called to Telfair Drive and Hershey Court according to WIVB-TV and after attempts were unsuccessful in freeing the trapped raccoon they called the Amherst Highway Department, and with their help, the grate with the raccoon still attached was removed and taken to the Erie County SPCA Wildlife Department.
A little background on the SPCA Serving Erie County.
The SPCA Serving Erie County founded in 1876 is the second-oldest humane society in the United States. It is estimated that 12,000 animals are assisted annually by the SPCA Serving Erie County.
Today, as our growing towns and cities impact the environment, more wild animals are needing assistance to survive.
The job of the SPCA Serving Erie County includes:
- Protecting animals against acts of cruelty, abuse, and neglect by enforcing established animal welfare laws and taking action to remove animals from unsafe situations, when necessary and seeking justice for animal victims.
- Rescuing animals in need, domestic and wild.
- Helping unwanted and homeless pets find loving homes.
- Educating the community on treating animals with kindness, compassion, and respect.
- Promoting responsible pet ownership.
- Helping keep families and pets together.
