Sports in Buffalo is a big deal. Not only do people from Western New York truly enjoy talking about Buffalo, but we also fully embrace our sports teams and the people who show up every day at Sahlen Field, Highmark Stadium, and the KeyBank Center. So when you hear about one of the members of our Buffalo sports family is getting ready to retire and end thier professional career, people show up and show out.

That exact thing has been happening today all around the Buffalo area as news broke that another one of our favorite players from the Buffalo Bandits is going to hang up his short stick and call it a career.

The Bandits are going to have a big hole to fill now that Forward Kyle Buchanan is retiring from professional lacrosse.

Buchanan, whose nickname is Bucky, is a Nepean, Ontario, Canada native who played college ball at Robert Morris University near Pittsburgh and has been no stranger to Buffalo and the Bandits. Buchanan first joined the team in 2022 after spending the start of his career with the Washington Stealth, Philadelphia Wings, the Black Wolves, San Diego Seals, and Dallas Rattlers.

During his time in Buffalo, he helped the Bandits win three championships and has grown to be an integral part of the team and the Western New York community. Over his career with the Bandits, he played in 89 games while scoring 272 points.

Buchanan wrote a letter to the team, league, and Buffalo that was posted on the Buffalo Bandits website on Thursday, October 29, 2026, when he announced his retirement from the game he loved, and you can see how much he cares for lacrosse and Buffalo.

The day when you finally step away from playing the game you fell in love with as a kid. The day you realize you’ll never run out of the tunnel in Banditland again to 18,000 fans screaming. The day you know you won’t get to sit in the locker room after a game and just spend time with the boys.

Being that my family is deeply ingrained in the lacrosse world and having crossed paths with Bucky many times over the years, he's shown himself to be a prime example of why Buffalo, the City of Good Neighbors, and Western New York is better because Bucky decided to make Buffalo his home.

Enjoy retirement, Bucky. Buffalo is a better place because of you
