The weather is getting warmer and we haven't gotten much rain over the past week or so. That, along with the time of the year, is why New York State has an outdoor burn ban in place through May 14th.

The outdoor burn ban allows small fires, such as campfires and bonfires, but it's aimed to cutdown on wildfires in the state.

The power of brush fires was felt along the 90 thruway on Monday, close to the New York State border.

According to Your Erie, firefighters battled multiple brush fires along Interstate 90 near Erie and Fairview, Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon.

The fires were roughly 90 minutes away from the City of Buffalo.

According to crews, the brush fires were likely started by a tractor-trailer which blew out a tire. That blown out tire kickstarted the brush fires.

The Southtowns Scanner here in Western New York, emphasized the importance of avoiding brush fires. While this appears to have started by accident from a passing tractor-trailer, this is a classic example of why an outdoor burn ban is in place through this Saturday.

Something as small as a blown out tire from a tractor-trailer is enough to cause a massive problem along one of the busiest interstates in the country.

Be extra careful out there when it comes to small outdoor fires. Make sure to never leave it unattended and to make sure kit's completely extinguished before leaving.
