Buffalo Bills should make an offer to this Pro-Bowl Cornerback
The Buffalo Bills recently beefed up their secondary via the NFL draft. But there is a Pro-Bowl Cornerback that could be a free agent by the end of the week, that they should pounce on.
The Bills just used their 1st round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft on Florida Cornerback Kaiir Elam. But by all accounts, he is going to need some coaching and work to get his game to the level necessary to be a starting CB in the NFL.
Levi Wallace is no longer here, as he signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers. And based on reports, it seems that the team doesn't want to rush back their All-Pro Tre'Davious White.
So that leaves the Bills with Cam Lewis, Dane Jackson, and Nick McCloud as options to start week 1, with Jackson currently listed atop the team's official depth chart. So one could say some depth is needed at the position.
Enter old friend Joe Schoen and the New York Giants. The giants are currently in a salary-cap crunch, as they need to free up $13 million dollars in cap space, just to sign their 11-member draft class. They have been trying for weeks to trade Pro-Bowl Cornerback James Bradberry, but have found no takers for his $21,863,889 2022 contract.
Schoen, the former Buffalo Bills Assistant General Manager who is in his 1st year as Giants GM , said yesterday that the situation with Bradberry and his contract will be resolved by the end of the week.
Schoen said that there were some deals in place, but the large cap hit of Bradberry's contract was a sticking point in negotiations. So, at this point, it looks as if Bradberry will be a free agent by the end of the week.
Bradberry has played at a Pro-Bowl level since signing with the Giants as a free agent prior to the 2020 season, recording 125 tackles to go along with 7 interceptions in his two seasons with New York. If the Giants cut Bradberry, they will save $10 million, which is desperately needed to sign their rookies. The cut seems inevitable.
The move seems like a no brainer for the Bills. They can add a Pro-Bowl shut down caliber Cornerback that can start for them week 1, and be a mentor to Elam, until Tre White is ready to return.
Bradberry is a former 2nd round pick out of Samford, who spent 4 years with the Carolina panters before signing with the Giants. He will be 29 years old at the start of the 2022 NFL season.
