Buffalo Bills Shockingly Release This Player
The Buffalo Bills will be starting off the 2025 season with a new special teams coordinator and now they'll be looking to fill another key position.
The Bills made the announcement today that they have parted ways with punter Sam Martin.
Sam Martin was signed to the Bills following a controversial release of the guy they called "The Punt God," Matt Araiza. The Bills had just drafted Araiza before finding out that he was accused of rape at his college of San Diego State. Martin has been with the Bills for three years now.
Many are asking why he's being released. He was in the final year of his contract with the Bills. According to Ian Rapoport, the Bills and Martin had been having discussions of how they could keep him in Buffalo this season when both parties agreed to go their separate ways. With his release, he is able to sign with another team immediately.
There are plenty of questions that will probably be answered in the next couple of weeks or days. For now, the only punter on the team is Jake Camarda. According to Sal Capaccio of the Buffalo Bills, the release will save the team about $1.8M.
The concern isn't just with the punting game. Martin is also the holder for all field goals and extra points. They'll have to find someone to replace him with quickly to give Tyler Bass, who has already had some struggles over the past couple of years, a little bit of time to practice with and get comfortable with.
