The Buffalo Bills released the list of 17 players they signed to their 2026-27 practice squad, and a couple of names on the list really stand out. The Bills have signed three key veteran players to their practice squad, which could really pay off later this season.

The NFL allows teams to sign up to 17 practice squad players, with 10 of those players having two or fewer seasons of experience.

Another one is used for the NFL international player pathway program, and the last 6 spots can be used for any player. That is where teams can sign players with the hopes of having veterans ready to go in case of injury during the season.

Buffalo Bills Sign Three Key Veterans To The Practice Squad

Shaq Thompson - A former 1st-round pick by the Carolina Panthers, Thompson joined the Bills last year as a free agent. He played in 12 games and started 6 of them. He was close with former Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott, so it is a bit of a shock he signed with the Bills. The good news is he will bring depth to the Bills linebacker group, and being on the practice squad will allow Thompson to learn the new defensive scheme and be ready to step up if an injury happens.

Geno Stone - Signed as a free agent this offseason, Stone was released over the weekend but is back with the Bills on their practice squad. A former 7th-round pick, Stone has over 300 career tackles in 6 seasons with two different teams. He is a perfect player to have on the practice squad in case of injury to an already slim safety group.

Shane Buechele - He's back! The QB is back with the Buffalo Bills on their practice squad again this season. Buechele isn't expected to do much on the field with the two Allens ahead of him on the roster, but he is known for being a great locker room guy. He is close with Josh Allen and will act like another set of eyes on game day. He knows Joe Brady's system and has a good relationship with Brady and Allen, which is a huge positive for him being on the practice squad.
