While teams are making trades around the NHL, the Sabres are locking up a key player for the next couple of seasons.

The NHL Trade Deadline is Friday, March 7, at 3 pm ET. Many trees have taken place, though none so far involving the Sabres. Buffalo is not likely to make any big moves. Quite frankly, they have a lot of searching to do about their future after the team has all but guaranteed to miss the playoffs for an NHL record 14th straight season. Many questions about the Sabres' core player, front office, coaching, and even ownership are on the minds of fans as it seems clear major changes need to happen.

One player who has not been part of the problem (when healthy) is Jordan Greenway. The large winger may not put up a lot of points, but he is an expert in stealing it and creating chances for the team. He's the type of player a winning team needs. Which is why it's good news he'll be sticking around.

Buffalo Sabres Re-Sign Important Player Before Trade Deadline

The Sabres have re-signed winger Jordan Greenway to a 2-year contract extension worth around $4 million per year.

That's a very friendly number for both Greenway and the team, showing many that Jordan wants to be in Buffalo and be part of turning things around. That's important as the team faces criticism, yet again, for their commitment to winning and playing hard after last night's embarrassing loss to last-place San Jose.

Greenway has played in 427 NHL games, tallying 55 goals and 104 assists. He is +25 for his career.
