It seems like it was yesterday that the Buffalo Sabres ended one of the longest playoff droughts in Pro Sports history, but that was last season, and the Sabres are hoping to make the playoffs and more this season. It will all start tonight for the Sabres

Buffalo Sabres Kickoff Preseason Tonight

Tonight is the first preseason game of the new season for the Sabres. This year's preseason is shorter compared to seasons in the past due to the fact that the NHL will play two more regular season games this year. The league will play 84 regular season games this season, compared to 82 last year.

For the Sabres, that means they will have fewer chances to work players out ahead of the upcoming regular season. The Sabres will only play four preseason games this year. Tonight they are on the road in Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins.

Then they return to KeyBank Center tomorrow to host Columbus. They are back on the road on Thursday to take on the Detroit Red Wings before wrapping up the preseason at home on Saturday against Pittsburgh.

Buffalo Sabres Open Regular Season On The Road

The Buffalo Sabres will kick off the 2026-27 regular season on the road. They will open the season on October 1st in Columbus against the Blue Jackets. They will have their home opener at KeyBank Center on October 3rd as they host the Chicago Blackhawks.

Odds makers at ESPN have the Sabres as one of the top half teams to win the Stanley Cup. At the time of this writing, they had the 12th-best odds to hoist the cup this season.
