The 2026 NHL draft will be held this weekend in Buffalo at KeyBank Center, and one of the teams wheeling and dealing is the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres announced a major trade yesterday, which allowed them to jump into the top half of this weekend's NHL draft.

Buffalo Sabres Make Massive Trade Ahead Of NHL Draft

The Buffalo Sabres announced that they made a move to acquire the #4 overall pick in this year's NHL draft from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Sabres sent defenseman Bowen Byram and winger Jordan Greenway to Chicago for the #4 overall pick, the #45 overall pick, and defenseman Louis Crevier.


Byram was the #4 overall pick by Colorado in the 2019 NHL draft before joining Buffalo in 2024 in a trade for Casey Mittelstadt. During his time in Buffalo, Byram scored 21 goals and had 68 assists for a total of 89 points.

Greenway joined the Sabres in 2023 at the NHL trade deadline and scored 18 goals with 28 assists for a total of 46 points.
