A night out with the boys or gossiping with the girls at a sleepover just doesn’t cut it.

Sometimes, you need to take matters into your own hands and turn to the one thing that always leaves us feeling somewhat fulfilled, regardless of what we are going through.

Comfort food.

Food doesn’t solve everything, but it does help you feel better, even if the change is slight. On birthdays, you may get to choose your favorite restaurant to go with your family, and at a funeral, you may notice that food is provided for those grieving the loss.

From early on in life, we adapt to this way of using food to feel better. Nutrients in food releasing serotonin and dopamine, which help us in more ways than one. Serotonin is the chemical that helps to regulate your mood and feelings of distress, according to BBC, whereas dopamine “manages feelings of motivation, attention, and emotional reward.”

It makes sense why we turn to comfort food when we are looking for some kind of an emotional relief.

And while Buffalo is known for so many food and local hotspots, there are some places we prefer more than others when we are looking for comfort food.

We asked you for your favorite places for comfort food, and these 15 places had the most votes.

  1. Jim’s Steakout

  2. Saika Sushi, an all-you-can-eat sushi place in the George-Urban plaza on Dick Road.

  3. Mighty Taco

  4. Mister Pizza

  5. Kelly’s Korner

  6. Seneca Texas Red Hots

  7. Elmwood Taco & Subs

  8. La Divina

  9. Five Guys

  10. The Pink

  11. Fat Bob’s Smokehouse

  12. Lake Effect Ice Cream

  13. Ted’s Hot Dogs

  14. Paula’s Donuts

  15. Mythos Restaurant

I think the ultimate comfort food run would be to order a little bit of everything from all of these great places!

It’s important to note, though, that there is a possibility of becoming addicted to this coping mechanism, so be cautious when you decide to turn to comfort food.
