Cuomo Orders All New Yorkers To Wear Face Coverings In Public

Governor Cuomo announced Wednesday that he was signing an executive order that will require all New Yorkers to wear mouth and nose coverings while in public where social distancing is not possible.

Per WIVB, all state residents must begin complying with this order by Friday (4/17). Face coverings must be worn anywhere that people can not be six feet or more away from someone. This will include stores, restaurants, and any public place that does not allow for proper social distancing.

The drastic measures are being taken in the hopes that New York is reaching the oft-mentioned "apex" of the coronavirus, and with over 700 New Yorkers still dying each day this move is an aggressive attempt to further "flatten the curve".

“What we have learned, our actions determine our destiny — we changed the curve. Every projection model — White House, CDC, Columbia, Cornell — they all had a higher rate of infection and death,” Cuomo said.

Cuomo is continuing to look towards how New York will move forward when the pandemic has fully passed, although a firm timetable is not in place yet.

In terms of the end of this, Cuomo says that will be when we have a vaccine.
