As we get deeper into the cold-weather season, the Buffalo Bills are in the midst of another run for the playoffs and a potential appearance in a Super Bowl. The last few years have seen the hometown team field several great players who are not only top performers on the field, but also amazing influences on the Western New York community.

One of the things that you will hear constantly about people who play for Buffalo's sports teams is how wonderful this community is, and you can see that in the fact that many players make the 716 thier home after they hang up their cleats, sticks, and other sports equipment.

Many of these people go to great efforts to give back to the region, and the contributions of one player in particular are being highlighted in the NFL after he was nominated for what many consider to be the NFL's most prestigious award.

Bills Dion Dawkins Nominated For Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

Since 1970, the NFL has given out an award to honor a player's commitment to philanthropy and community impact, as well as his excellence on the field. Until 1998, it was just called the NFL Man of the Year Award; however, in 1999, it was renamed the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in honor of the former Chicago Bear running back for his lifelong commitment to humanitarian causes.

Each of the NFL's 32 teams nominates a player who embodies these qualities to be voted on by a panel of people connected to the league. The winner is honored at the NFL Honors ceremony, the Super Bowl of that year, and receives a $250,000 donation to a cause of their choice.

For the fourth time in his career, the Buffalo Bills have nominated Dion Dawkins. Since Dawkins entered the league in 2017, he has worked hard both on and off the field to make an impact on the Bills and Buffalo.

You can see his work on display all over the region, which has had such an impact that he was recently given the Key to the City of Buffalo for the work he has done, individually and through his foundation, Dion's Dreamers.

It is an honor to be named the Buffalo Bills Walter Payton Man of the Year Club Winner for the fourth year in a row... My work in Buffalo is a reflection of the city itself; we're always willing to help each other out when it is needed. It is a privilege to receive this recognition and know that I will continue to use my platform as a way to shine light on those unseen.
-Dion Dawkins
