Governor Kathy Hochul Angers Many Parents In New York State With Comments

Kathy Hochul has been the Governor of New York for one week now and is already eyeing key decisions.

Today, Hochul was in Buffalo and spoke at a late morning press conference on the future of New York State and the ongoing battle with the COVID-19 pandemic, and in particular, the Delta variant.

Hochul announced that any school staffer would have to be vaccinated or get a mandatory test once a week.

$65 million will be given to local authorities across the state to help get both vaccine and booster shots to the people who need it, as the state begins the process of combating the Delta variant and hoping to get more people vaccinated in the coming weeks.

Hochul also talked about mask mandates in schools across New York and she said that kids "can handle a mask on their face."

The stance on masks for kids in school has been met with some backlash from parents of children in New York schools, but Governor Hochul said she would be committed to making the tough decisions if it meant keeping the safety of New Yorkers a top priority.

It remains to be seen if there will be added mask mandates inside businesses in New York or if any restrictions will be implemented as we get into fall.
