One of the cool things about Western New York is the different food scenes. Buffalo as a whole is known for its local food, but it’s a different kind of vibe, depending on which part of the Buffalo region you visit.

Hamburg has its own food scene. East Aurora has its own as well. The west side of Buffalo is another and for sure, Elmwood Avenue is unique too.

My grandparents lived on Highland Avenue off of Elmwood, so I used to spend a lot of time around there. I also went to Buffalo State College, so there’s not time spent around the Elmwood food scene.

One of the traditions on Elmwood Ave. was going to Great Wall. I first went there with my dad when we went there to pick up Chinese food during a stay at my grandparents.

Sadly, it appears Great Wall has closed.

According to Gutter Magic on Twitter, which was retweeted by Buffalo Eats, Great Wall has closed its doors.

It appears the owners have retired and the restaurant will eventually reopen with a new identity.

The Google listing for the restaurant says “temporarily closed,” so hopefully that means it will reopen soon in some capacity.

Everyone has that one Chinese place, burger place, Italian place, etc. that they love to always go to for lunch or dinner; for many that was Great Wall on Elmwood.
