Another day of near-record heat here in Western New York has prompted the Buffalo Office of the National Weather Service to issue a special weather statement:

HEAT INDEX REACHING THE LOWER 90S THIS AFTERNOON...
Expect another hot and humid day today, with high temperatures reaching the upper 80s to near 90 degrees.
The very warm conditions along with high humidity will result in heat index values topping out in the 90 to 95 degree range this afternoon.
Some cooling will occur near the immediate Great Lakes shores this afternoon.
Take precautions if you need to be out in the heat today by taking frequent breaks inside and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Pools opening, bikes, shorts, tees, golfing, tennis, grilling...whatever you are planning Summer sure came early to Western New York.  Maybe we just needed the encouragement.  2020 has been tough for most, devastating for some.

Let's think of all the things we can do to make Summer HAPPEN, responsibly and respectfully for all of us.

CNN had some great ideas yesterday of ways to keep Summer alive through the pandemic including:

  • Family game, movie or dance party night
  • Water balloon fights
  • Smash the Virus (make a Coronavirus pinata and smash the heck out of it.)
  • Bake for a neighbor
  • Become a volunteer dog walker
  • Make a sign of thanks and post it
  • Declutter your house
  • Have a backyard campout

Remember whether it be Summer or memories in general...it's all about what you make of it.
