A scary scene took place this morning at Sahlen Field, right before the Buffalo Bisons are wrapping up one of their final homestands of the season.

Just after 9 am this morning, smoke was seen billowing out of the stadium in downtown Buffalo, bringing Buffalo FD  to the scene in less than a minute. The fire was quickly put out, and thankfully, no one was hurt.

Buffalo firefighters are still investigating the cause, however their initial belief is a compressor could have possibly overheated on a mobile concession cart inside the stadium, causing it to catch fire. They have ruled the blaze accidental.

Although the fire was swiftly contained, it left behind an estimated $500-$600,000 in damage inside the stadium.

So how will this affect Buffalo Bisons fans who had plans to head to the stadium this Labor Day weekend?

Buffalo Bisons Game Will Go On As Scheduled

Mike Buczkowski, General Manager of the Buffalo Bisons and President of Rich Baseball Operations, told the media that tonight’s Buffalo Bisons game against the Indianapolis Indians will still take place at Sahlen Field, with doors opening at 5 pm and first pitch at 7:05 pm.

However, the stadium will be implementing some changes tonight that fans need to be aware of before they go.

What To Know Before Attending A Buffalo Bisons Game This Weekend

Because crews are still cleaning up the area on the 1st base side where the fire took place, that section of the stadium will be closed to the public - including restrooms and concession stands.

Fans that already have a ticket to the game and were seated in Sections 116 through 120 will be relocated, and need to go to the box office to exchange their tickets.

Entrance gates on the right field side of the ballpark will also be closed, however fans can enter through the Oak Street or Swan Street sides.

As far as safety goes, officials say that the sprinkler and alarm systems inside Sahlen Field were tested after the fire and are working properly.

What a relief that Buffalo Bisons fans can still catch some baseball this Labor Day weekend! If you’re not going to the game tonight, they’ll also be home vs. Indianapolis on Saturday and Sunday, and again against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs beginning this Tuesday.
