The past decade has been a tough time for malls across Western New York, as well as all around the country.

The Walden Galleria has seen massive changes in stores brought into the mall, while the Eastern Hills and Boulevard Mall have dealt with changing times, as the acceleration of online shopping has clearly caused less foot traffic in the malls. That’s been a big reason for a lack of storefronts being occupied.

Another major retailer is leaving the Boulevard Mall.

According to Buffalo Business First, H&M will be leaving the Boulevard Mall on January 6th. It’s the latest store to leave the mall, which now includes 50 empty storefronts.

H&M is a clothing store which also has locations at Walden Galleria and The Fashion Outlets. They’re leaving is a blow to a mall with an uncertain future.

The Boulevard Mall has undergone so much change in the last 5-10 years, that it's hard for some people to wrap their minds around it. The food court is a thing of the past, while there have been both retailers and restaurants which have left the store. The mall is still a tradition for many north town residents during the holiday season, but no more H&M will take getting used to.

We will have to wait and see if anything ends up taking the space that H&M is vacating.
