Unusually Warm October For Buffalo, New York

We kicked off this normally chilly month with a bang. Monday’s skies were full of temperatures, and the high temp hit 77 degrees at the Buffalo Niagara airport.

Tuesday morning started relatively warm in the low 60s and eventually climbed to a high of 79 degrees at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport in the afternoon. Wednesday is projected to be even nicer, with WIVB forecasting another day of sunny skies and a whopping high of 84 degrees.

It’s definitely unusual to see warm weather like this in Buffalo this time of year, where the average temperature in October is just 59 degrees. But was it warm enough to break a long-standing record?

Did Tuesday’s Weather Break A Record In Buffalo?

According to the National Weather Service, the warmest October 3rd on record in Buffalo was when temperatures hit 86 degrees back in 1898. Today, even though it was hot outside, we were shy of breaking the record, topping out at 79 degrees.

We’ve still got something to be grateful for - the coldest recorded temperature in Buffalo on October 3rd was only 30 degrees, set back in 1974. Brrr! Thankfully, we weren’t even close enough to that.

Also, the temperatures we hit today make it the warmest day we’ve had so far this fall in Buffalo.

But tomorrow could be a very different story!

Tomorrow We Could Tie Or Break A Buffalo Weather Record

The record high for October 4th in Buffalo is 87 degrees (set in 1951), and with temps projected to reach the upper 80s, we could be super close to smashing it.

However, don’t get too used to this gorgeous weather. By the time Friday rolls around, cooler temperatures and rain will start rolling in, bringing a drizzly, windy and damp weekend with it.

Buffalo weather is temperamental, so we’re at least  grateful that we have a few days in a row to forget about the snow and sleet that’ll soon be coming our way, and pretend like it’s summer again.
