A tweet that went viral involving the son of Philadelphia Flyers GM and former Sabre Daniel Briere has led to possible jail time and/or fines for his son, Carson Briere

The video, taken on March 11th, shows Briere pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down a flight of stairs at Sullivan's Pub in Erie, Pennsylvania. Security camera footage of the incident went viral, leading not only the younger Briere, a 23-year-old hockey player and a junior at Mercyhurst University, to apologize - but also his famous father, Daniel.

Carson Briere:

I am deeply sorry for my behavior on Saturday. There is no excuse for my actions, and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment.

Daniel Briere:

I was shocked to see Carson's actions in the video that was shared on social media yesterday. They are inexcusable and run completely counter to our family's values on treating people with respect. Carson is very sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior.

Carson Briere Facing Criminal Charges

After an investigation, police in Erie, PA, officially charged Carson Briere with misdemeanor criminal mischief, criminal conspiracy to commit mischief, and disorderly conduct, according to the Associated Press

Briere is being charged along with another Mercyhurst student, Patrick Carrozzi, who is also seen in the surveillance video pushing the wheelchair down the stairs.

AP identifies the owner of the wheelchair as Sydney Benes, who has since filed a complaint stating the fall damaged the chair’s left brake handle, right armrest’s plastic molding, rear grip, and wheels. Benes said the wheelchair was purchased a year ago, costing $2,000.

A GoFundMe is in effect to raise money for Benes’ broken wheelchair.

An initial tweet regarding the incident alleges that Ms. Benes left her wheelchair at the top of the stairs because she needed to be carried down to use the facilities at the establishment.
