WATCH: Hilarious Quote From Buffalo Sabres Goalie Going Viral
Cheer up, Buffalo Sabres fans– you still have the Amerks.
With the Sabres sitting out of the playoffs yet again (the 13th year in a row), several of their devoted supporters are taking the trip down the 90 to put their hopes in the affiliated Rochester Americans.
The Amerks are in the midst of their 3rd straight AHL playoff appearance, and after grabbing the North Division postseason title and advancing to the conference finals last year, both Rochester and Buffalo fans are hoping for another great playoff run.
The Americans kicked off the 2023-24 playoffs on Friday night at their home Blue Cross Arena against their fiercest rival, the Syracuse Crunch. After a contentious battle, the Amerks scraped away with a 3-2 win, partly due to an impressive performance by goaltender Devon Levi.
The Buffalo Sabres have loaned Levi, aka “The Beast,” to Rochester several times this season, and loyal Amerks fans couldn’t be more grateful. Levi had 35 saves in Friday night’s battle against Syracuse, including fending off a vicious 6 on 5 attack from the Crunch that nearly took the Americans' win away with seconds to spare in the third period.
Devon Levi Had An Outstanding Post-Game Comment
Towards the end of the brutal game, after the Crunch had pulled their goalie to make it 6 on 5, there was a moment when the puck trickled toward Levi, giving him a clear shot to send it down the ice and score. When asked about it on Friday night in a post-game press conference, Levi had an amazing response.
“Yeah I thought about it,” he said with a huge smile as the reporters in attendance laughed. “If it was the regular season, maybe I’d try going for it.”
He soon added,
“I’d rather leave with a win rather than a goal. Ya know, I’m not trying to be too…uh…horny...for scoring more than what you need.”

The hysterical comment quickly went viral for obvious reasons, and both Sabres and Amerks fans latched on.
