5 Reasons Fall Stinks In Western New York
It's a pretty widely known belief that Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer. But we're going to hold on as long as we can, because fall stinks in Western New York.
You heard me. Fall stinks.
I know there are a lot of people who think fall is the best season of the year, but before you start throwing your pumpkin-spiced drinks at me, at least hear me out.
It's not because of the weather
A lot of people will assume that the reason people might hate fall in Western New York is because of the weather, but that's rarely the issue. Yes, summer is the perfect season in WNY, and fall is like summer dying, but that's not what has us bitter about fall. Fall weather in Western New York is actually pretty great. You get the chance to pull out hoodies and not have to worry about sweating your face off. It's the first opportunity to get the fireplace going.
Fall weather is fine.
It's not because of the pumpkin-spiced stuff
Yes, people go a little crazy for their pumpkin-spiced drinks and snacks. You'll find that crap on just about everything you buy from August through the end of November. But if people like it, then so be it. I couldn't care less. In my opinion, the world would be a lot better if we all stopped worrying about what other people are doing that isn't hurting anyone.
Here's the real reason fall stinks
The real reason fall stinks is that there's so much to do before winter comes. Summer feels like it is built for fun. We take as many days as we can in June, July, and August to jam all the fun stuff in. We get outdoor concerts, days to hang out by the pool, and dinners on a patio. Then suddenly it's fall, and our brains have to immediately switch to work mode in Western New York. We have things to do that no one looks forward to, and if we don't get them done, winter is going to stink, too.
So here we go. As they say in the military, it's time to embrace the suck.
Well, it's almost time to embrace the suck. It's still summer on the calendar until September 22nd.
