By now, you've probably heard of the website FanDuel. But you probably didn't know that the person in charge of that company is from Eden, New York.
Gambling websites have become huge over the past couple of years. Did you know that the CEO for one of the biggest ones is a Western New Yorker?
What is FanDuel?
Forbes describes FanDuel as a legal sportsbook, functioning just as a real casino would but online. So it allows you to make bets online on professional sports like football basketball, fantasy sports, horse racing, and more. Then if you're lucky enough to win, you can withdraw your money directly from the site. They pride themselves on not only giving you the opportunity to bet and win money with sports, but also on education. They give you the chance to read up on the latest news from all sports so that you're in the know before you make a bet.
The CEO of FanDuel is from here in Western New York
Her name is Amy Howe and not only was she born in Eden, New York, but she went to school at Eden Junior/Senior High School before heading off to Cornell University. That's where she began her journey in business as she studied Business Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services.
A few years later, Howe earned her MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Business School and then she was off to conquer the world. She started at a place called Accenture before taking a job at Ticketmaster where she was named COO in 2015. In 2020 she left Ticketmaster and was named the president of FanDuel in 2021.
You really can be anything you want to be
I know it's cliché to say it, but it's stories like this that prove that it's true. Eden is a small town. It's something that residents there actually pride themselves on. But it doesn't mean that you can't go on to do something big if you want to.
