Crime Stats Say Buffalo Is Safer Than Ever
Over the last century or so, the Federal Government and the great state of New York have kept pretty accurate data on crime that's commented on in the nation and the state. From the FBI and the state's State Division of Criminal Justice, there is a long list of historical data that goes back and allows us to look at and compare how things are today as opposed to yesterday.
Given all that information, we're able to really have context about how bad or good things are today. Now, while there are people who live in different parts of society that want you to think that we live in a movie that features Snake Pliskin, the truth is that we really don't live in a scene from Escape from New York, and it's historically the safest time ever.
Now, while it may not feel that way, the numbers in Buffalo and beyond show historical drops in crime across New York's cities.
Latest Crime Statistics Show Buffalo Is Seeing Additional Drops In Crime
When you look over the data that both the New York State Division of Criminal Justice and the City of Buffalo Police Department have collected this year, it's clear that things in Buffalo are better than they were.
This, of course, doesn't mean that we live in a crime-free utopia. In fact, it's far from it. As Buffalo remains one of the poorest cities in America, it's quite a surprise that we're not seeing more crime. However, regardless of how someone may feel about it, crime is down in Buffalo, and the trend is leaning towards it continuing.

All of the major violent crime categories are down, with homicides and rapes seeing more than a 50% drop over the last 5 years. Property crimes are also down double digits in both burglaries and motor vehicle thefts.
Now, while these stats are encouraging for many, there is still more work to be done, as there are shootings and other crimes that happen on a near-daily basis across New York's second-largest city. Law enforcement, those in political power, and the community must work together to ensure a safe and thriving community for all in Western New York.
