Governor Hochul Ends New York’s State of the State Address With Bills Shout Song

In a state that has often led the nation in all sorts of categories and situations, it often means you find out about all sorts of things and initiatives when the Governor gives their State of the State Address. Just like when the President of the United States gives thier annual State of the Union Address, Governors of America's 50 States also deliver a report to their legislatures and residents. According to Ballotpedia, all state Governors give a regular report on the condition of the state and also detail the governor’s priorities and goals for the legislative session.

In the Empire State, Governor Kathy Hochul gave her fifth State of the State Address inside the Hart Theatre at The Egg in the Great Empire State Plaza on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

In that speech, Hochul detailed the general condition of the state and laid out several things that she wished to do as the State's Chief Executive over the next twelve months, and beyond. Being that this is also an election year for Governor Hochul, she also took an opportunity to draw a distinction between her policies and those of the people in control in Washington D.C.

Governor Hochul Reminded Us All That There Is Only One New York Team

As Hochul began to wrap up her approximately 1-hour-long speech, she took a moment to reflect on her time growing up in Western New York and did something that perhaps has never happened before at a New York State of the State Address; that's loudly proclaim: Go Bills as the Bills Shout Song played loudly inside The Egg!

While three NFL teams claim New York, only one of those teams is actually from and a part of New York, and that's the Buffalo Bills. As the Bills go into the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs, the New Jersey New York Jets, and Giants are home watching on TV.
