As we pass the halfway point of January, it appears that another winter storm is targeting parts of Western and Central New York, with the potential to drop several feet of snow on the region.

Recent weather reports, not only are parts of the Empire State expected to see a lot of snow, but we should also get smacked with high winds and extremely low temperatures. According to the National Weather Service, areas like Buffalo should plan to see some of the coldest air of the season, with temperatures in the single digits and windchills dipping below zero.

With the potential for extreme cold and dangerous weather, there are several things that we should be doing right here in New York to make sure we're ready to ride out the storm if necessary.

While we have become experts in dealing with cold and snow in the Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse area, that does not mean we can use a refresher of survive winter.

Doing These Things Will Help Keep You Ready All Winter Long

There is a saying: "if you stay ready you won't have to get ready", and since winter comes to the region quick and sticks around for a while, if you do these things you'll be prepared just in case things get rough.

Considering that winter can go all the way through April in the Northeast, making sure you have plenty of supplies and a clear action plan can go a long way to keeping you and the people you care about safe and sound.
