There was one time in history when the central core of New York State's second-largest city was a bustling city centre with a pedestrian mall and thousands of people strolling around the area. However, it seems that those days are long gone as there are stretches of downtown Buffalo that are desolate and nearly empty.

While there is a major push underway by some of Buffalo's biggest businesses to bring more people back to work downtown, it seems those efforts are just a tad bit too late for one downtown coffee shop, as they are planning to shut their doors in the very near future.

In a post on their social media channels, Buffalo's Public Espresso announced they are closing down their three Buffalo-area cafes.

With locations in South Buffalo, the Elmwood Village, and in Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo, Public Espresso has been a Western New York favorite for years.

The cafes, which also have a few express locations inside Dash's Markets across the region, have been operating for 13 years and have grown famous for their coffees, espressos, and food. Unfortunately, it seems their days are numbered as the announcement from Public Espresso's three freestanding locations will shut down for good on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

According to WIVB-TV, which previously reported on the cafes being temporarily closed by the Erie County Department of Health, only the three cafes in Downtown, South Buffalo, and the Elmwood Village are closing. The Dash's Market location will remain open.

As Public Espresso is getting ready to shut down, they are only focusing on in-store orders and are stopping delivery orders.
