Target’s Price Change Sparks Outrage Among Loyal New Yorkers

Target is facing backlash due to a major policy change it recently announced. As inflation continues to rise - it's up to 2.7 percent in June - New Yorkers continue to struggle to purchase the items their families need. Even though we were promised the economy would improve starting in January 2025, that was clearly a lie. The job market is suffering too. Per CNN,

"The US job market slowed sharply in July and was substantially weaker than first estimated for prior months, suggesting President Donald Trump’s trade policy may be stifling hiring. The US economy added just 73,000 jobs last month, and the monthly totals for May and June were revised down by a combined 258,000 jobs."

On top of all of that, Trump's tariffs are driving up prices for consumers. And they are negatively affecting the stock market. The economy is headed into the trash in a hurry.

New York shoppers who were hoping to catch a break from supporting Target have been let down.

Target Facing Backlash In New York Due To Major Policy Change

Many people who were regular Target shoppers vowed not to set foot in the retail giant again. While it was not a surprise that some companies, like John Deere or Walmart, dropped their DEI efforts, Target shocked its base. The company had built a reputation for supporting black, minority, and women-owned businesses, along with the LGBTQ community.

Now, the retailer has upset many of the shoppers who stayed with it through the boycott. Target stopped its price match policy, which allowed its shoppers to enjoy low prices from Amazon and Walmart while still shopping at Target. The only price matching it offers now is for its own in-store and online prices, if the price drops within 14 days. The company said,

"We've found our guests overwhelmingly price match Target and not other retailers, which reflects the great value and trust in pricing consumers see across our assortment and deals."
